The South African Radiobiology Society (SARS) is the professional association of scientists working in the field of radiation biology. The aims of the society are to:
- Advance the discipline of radiobiology by promoting learning, education and development programmes, and employment opportunities for radiobiologists.
- Facilitate and develop research in the discipline and disseminate knowledge.
- Encourage and facilitate collaboration and communication between radiobiologists and between those having an interest in radiobiology in South Africa and abroad.
- Provide public comment on matters regarding the biological effects of radiation.
- Support and advise other related disciplines including medical physics, radiation protection, radiology, nuclear medicine and radiation oncology in matters of radiobiology.
- Develop and provide guidance on training and registration requirements of the Health Professions Council of South Africa for radiobiologists providing clinical service.
