The SAAPMB President, Mr Chris Trauernicht
Chris is currently director of medical physics at Tygerberg Hospital and a senior lecturer at Stellenbosch University.
Before that he worked as a medical physicist at Groote Schuur Hospital and iThemba LABS.
Chris was an extraordinary member of the SAAPMB council from 2010-2014 and got elected onto the council in 2014. In 2016 he became the vice-president, and in 2017 he became the president of the SAAPMB. He was recently also elected as vice-president of FAMPO, the Federation of African Medical Physics Organizations.
Chris serves as a member on the Professional Standards Committee for the 2018 IUPESM congress in Prague. He was the co-chairperson of the 2016 SAAPMB congress. He was also a member of the bid committee, congress organizing committee and a corresponding member of the International Congress Programme Committee for the IRPA14 congress that was held in Cape Town in 2016.
Chris’s involvement with the International Atomic Energy Agency goes back to 2010, when he became the project counterpart for South Africa for a regional nuclear medicine related project. He is still the project counterpart for a regional project on safety in medical imaging. In addition, he lectured on various topics at a number of IAEA training courses and workshops.
Chris has published a number of papers and book chapters and has presented over 70 times at national or international congresses as author or co-author.
